* Mustered in June 20, 1861 as Sergeant in Harrisburg, Pa. 
* Promoted from 1st Sergeant to 2nd Lieutenant Jan. 13, 1862 
* Promoted to 1st Lieutenant Aug. 1862 
* Died Jan. 27, 1863 of wounds received at Fredericksburg, Dec. 13, 1862 
* Served June 20, 1861 - Jan. 27, 1863 
* Entitled to extra pay for two month for responsibility of commanding company 
* Commanding Co. from Aug. 31 to Dec. 13, 1862 
* Height - 5' 11 1/2"; Hair - Brown; Complexion - Sanguine; Eyes - Blue 
* Occupation at enrollment - Teacher 
* Residence at enrollment - Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Widow Pension: Applied Feb. 14, 1863, Application #12771, Certificate #3242
* Widow Pension lists the following: Widow - Annie; Maiden name of Annie is 
Miller; George and Annie were married Aug. 30, 1860; Annie was admitted June 18, 
1863 to a pension of $17 per month commencing Jan. 27, 1863; Minor child George 
S. born Nov. 27, 1860 applied Dec. 28, 1882 for a minor pension and was rejected 
on the ground that the claimant is the illegitimate son of the soldier, as the 
soldier and claimant's mother were never married; The mother of George was Susan 
who married Joseph Wilt, who enlisted during the war and was killed in the 
service.
