Logan, William Jr.

* Born in Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Died July 17, 1913 in Stahlstown, Pa. 
* Captain Co. C 84th Regiment Pa. Infantry 
* Enrolled Aug. 1, 1862 at age 37 in Westmoreland Co. Pa. 
* Mustered in Sept. 16, 1862 as Captain in Harisburg, Pa. 
* Discharged Aug. 22, 1863 
* Residence at enrollment - Westmoreland Co. Pa. 
* Fought in battles at Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, The Wilderness and 
Gettysburg 
* Captured and taken prisoner, refused to surrender his sword, electing instead 
to break it between two saplings. 
* Managed to escape 
* Twice wounded, spent a month in Washington D. C. hospital 
* Discharged due to injuries 
* Re-enlisted in Troop D 4th Pa. Cavalry as a Private 
* Enrolled Mar. 14, 1864 at age 39 in Pittsburgh, Pa. 
* Mustered in Mar. 16, 1864 as Private in Pittsburgh, Pa. 
* Discharged July 26, 1865 by General Order 
* Transferred to Veteran Reserve Corp. 
* Occupation - Shoemaker 
* A stranger entered his shoe shop and asked if he had ever been taken prisoner 
or refused to surrender his sword. 
* The customer had once been William's captor. 
* Height - 5' 8"; Hair - Dark Brown; Complexion - Florid; Eyes Brown 
* Occupation at enrollment - Harness Maker 
* Invalid Pension: Applied July 18, 1890 and Mar. 6, 1907, Application #860551, 
Certificate #691442; Widow Pension: Applied July 31, 1913, Application #1012092,
