Taber Cemetery, Quemahoning Twp. Somerset Co. Pa. * Corporal Co. G 19th U. S. Infantry * Enlisted Feb. 22, 1862 at age 24 in Johnstown, Pa. as a Private * Occupation at enlistment - Farmer * Height - 5' 11", Eyes - Black, Hair - Black, Complexion - Dark * Nov. 25, 1863 he is ill with general disability and was in the hospital at Patterson Park for three months * Sept. 20, 1863 he was captured at Chickamauga and served two months in Richmond Prison, six months in Danville Prison, four months in Andersonville Prison, four weeks in Savannah and one month in Milan * He was paroled Nov. 19, 1864 * Shortly after his parole he was sent on Nov. 25, 1864 to Division Hospital at Annapolis, Md. and on Nov. 27, 1864 to Patterson Park Hospital in Baltimore, Md. * He was in the following battles: 2nd Bull Run, Seven days fight before Richmond, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Stone River, Hoover's Gap and Chickamauga * He was furloughed for thirty days and returned at the end of the furlough * He was detailed for special duty several times. Upon returning to duty he was sent to Federal Hill, Md. in February and from there to Cincinnati, Ohio. After a few days he is sent to Bedloss, Island, N. Y., to a camp on the Potacalico River, South Carolina. In early March he is sent to New York City and then to Louisville, Kentucky. His last assignment was to go to Eastern Virginia to help in the transport of wounded soldiers back to Pennsylvania * Discharged Apr. 12, 1865 by reason of expiration of term of service at Lookout Mountain, Tennessee * Served 14 month's in Andersonville Prison * Regiment Army, 60th Unassigned * Served Aug. 27, 1864 - May 28, 1865 - 9 month 1 day * He states that while a prisoner in Andersonville my right knee and leg got sore and I had to walk with a crutch and sometimes a cane. My left arm and hand got sore near about the same time. This was about the latter part of August or first of September 1864. I was moved from Andersonville, Ga. to Savannah, Ga., and from there to Millen Prison, Ga. The sores resulted in making my right knee stiff, not being able to step up. The muscles having contracted and thickened, also weak. The left arm and hand being also disabled by the contraction of muscles on the left hand making it stiff and not able to open and close. * Invalid Pension: Applied Apr. 14, 1879, Application #279462, Certificate #179725; Widow Pension: Application #796678, no certificate number listed.
