Morton, Howard

* Born Jan. 2, 1842 in Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Private Co. G 
* Enlisted 1861 in Plummer Guards 
* Promoted to Corporal 
* Promoted to Sergeant 
* Promoted to 1st lieutenant at battle of Allegheny Mountain 
* He was in command at Rocky Gap, the captain having been wounded. 
* For his defense of Beverly, W. Va. he received letters of praise from Captain 
DuPont, Chief of Artillery Department of W. Va. and from Major General Julius 
Stahl, Commanding Cavalry. 
* At the close of his term of service he was commissioned Major of the 5th Pa. 
Artillery
