Murphy, Alexander

* Born Oct. 4, 1824 in Cambria Co. Pa. 
* Died 1910 
* Married in Somerset Co. Pa. 
* Private Co. I 54th Regiment Pa. Infantry 
* Enrolled Aug. 17, 1861 in Johnstown, Pa. as a Private 
* Promoted to Corporal, date unknown 
* Discharged Oct. 11, 1864 
* He was slightly wounded twice at Snicker's Gap
* In the fall of 1863 he was furloughed for 12 days and returned to Cumberland, 
Md. 
* In the winter of 1863 he was detailed as scout in the Shenandoah Valley 
* Alexander was in the following battles: New Market, Piedmont, Winchester, 
Snicker's Ford, Fishers Hill, Cedar Creek, Lynchburg and several others. 
* Discharged Oct. 10, 1864 
* Not on muster out roll 
* Invalid Pension: Applied Apr. 1, 1891 and Mar. 18, 1907, Application #1007323, 
Certificate #816876
