Pa. * Private Co. K 85th Regiment Pa. Infantry * Enrolled Aug. 18, 1861 at age 45 in Stewart Twp. Fayette Co. Pa. with his son Leonard * Mustered in Nov. 6, 1861 as Private in Uniontown, Pa. * Not on muster out rolls * He was in the battles of Williamsburg and Fair Oaks * Took sick after that and was discharged * Re-enlisted in 1864 and served until the end of the war. His illnesses were due to nerves and Diarrhea * He was treated at various hospitals in Philadelphia, Pa. * Second enlistment may have been due to the need for income. * Starting in June 1880 his widow received a pension of $8 per month, which increased to $12 per month in Mar. 1886 * Three other sons also served in the Civil War, Jonas, Josiah and David.
