F 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry * Enrolled Aug. 11, 1862 at age 25 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. by F. A. Edmunds * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton * Deserted Oct. 1, 1862 at Frederick, Md. * Eyes - Gray; Hair - Dark; Complexion - Fair; Height - 5' 10" * Occupation at enrollment - Laborer * He was a deserter from Blenkers Division when in camp near Cumberland at New Creek and came direct to Berlin when Co. F was being formed. He was well drilled and was made a Sergeant. At Camp Curtin he got drunk and the Captain ordered him placed in the Guard House and had him reduced to the ranks as Private.
