F 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry * Enrolled Aug. 13, 1862 at age 26 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. by F. A. Edmunds * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. * Mustered out with regiment May 29, 1865 * On Dec. 13, 1862 at the battle of Fredericksburg, the only Rebel shell that dropped into this Co. fell right between the legs of Moses but it did not explode, It bruised his legs some. He was in the hospital at Baltimore. * Shell landed and after striking 4 or 5 times, struck him above the knee of the right leg. * He was still in the Finley hospital at Washington, D. C. on Jan. 1, 1863 * Eyes - Black; Hair - Black; Complexion - Fair; Height - 5' 3" * Occupation at enrollment - Tabacconist * He was in the following battles: Fredericksburg, where he was wounded; Wilderness; Laurel Ridge, where he was wounded; Popular Grove Church; Chapins Farm; Raid to Bellfield; Hatchers Run and Dabney's Mill * Detailed as Adjutants clerk Mar. 1865 * Wounded May 10, 1864 * Widow Pension: Applied May 18, 1891, Application #513731, Certificate #359877 SOURCE: * Meyersdale Republican July 12, 1934 * Jacob Zorn Diary, page 37, 82, 113, 185 and 186 * Muster Roster Co.
