* Born in Germany 
* Private Co. F 142nd Regiment Pa. Infantry 
* Enrolled Aug. 20, 1862 at age 26 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. by F. A. Edmunds 
* Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. 
* Deserted Aug. 25, 1862 
* Eyes - Hazel; Hair - Dark; Complexion - Fair; Height - 5' 10" 
* Occupation at enrollment - Miner 
* Deserted before he was mustered in but Captain Edmunds paid another man to 
answer for Steiner and marks Steiner as a deserter.
