Infantry * Enrolled Aug. 8, 1862 at age 24 in Berlin, Somerset Co. Pa. * Mustered in Aug. 25, 1862 at Harrisburg, Pa. by Lieutenant Brayton, U. S. A. * Promoted from Sergeant to 1st Sergeant May 25, 1864 * Commissioned 1st Lieutenant June 3, 1865, not mustered * Mustered out with company * Enlisted Aug. 12, 1862 * Discharged May 29, 1865 at Washington, D. C. as 1st Lieutenant * Served Aug. 25, 1862 - May 29, 1865 - 33 month 4 days * Taken prisoner at Gettysburg, held prisoner for 3 months before being exchanged. Thrice offered a parole but refused, hoping to escape, but hope was in vain. Prisoners were marched to Staunton, Va., and from there to Richmond, Va.
