These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. ************************************************************************ Somerset County, PA Declaration For Original Pension Of An Invalid State of Pennsylvania County of Somerset On this Eighth day of March 1871 personally appeared before me Clerk of the Common Pleas Court, a duly authorized officer of a Court of Record in and for the County and state aforesaid, Jacob Pritts who being duly sworn according to law, declares that he is the identical Jacob Pritts who enlisted under the name Jacob Pritts in the military service of the United States at Somerset Pa on the 12 day of August in the year 1862 in Company C in the 142 Regiment, Pennsylvannia Volunteers 1 that after he was wounded & had somewhat mended he was transferred to the invalid Corps Co 96 2d Battalion in the war of 1861, and was honorably discharged on the 24 or 25 day of August in the year 1865 that his personal description is as follows: Age 29, Height 6 feet, complexion rather dark, hair brown, eyes blue; that while in the service of aforesaid, and in the line of duty, he received the following wound...a wound in the left leg below the knee joint injuring the bone and causing lameness said wound being received at the battle of Fredricksberg Virginia on the 13 of December 1862 whilst in the fight with the rebels & in the line of duty in the service of the United States, that in consequence of said wound he was sent to Fenlay Hospital at Washington, DC & remained there several months, then was sent to Philadelphia Pa to West Philadelphia Hospital remained about a month then was transferred to Convalescent Camp Alexandria Va remained there a few weeks then was transferred to the Invalid Corps Co 96, 2d Battallion & remained there till his discharge...and his present physical condition is such that he is unable to use it without pain and suffering especially troubling him when he works, sometimes becoming so severe as to cause him to desist from his work. That since leaving the service said Applicant has resided in Milford Township County of Somerset and State of Pennsylvania and his occupation has been a laborer. He makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the Invalid Pension Roll of the United States, by reason of the disability above stated; and herby constitutes and appoints Henry F. Schell of Somerset County of Somerset and State of Penn@ and his Post Office address is Shoffs Bridge Somerset Co Penn@ Two witnesses when signed by mark (signed) J. P.
