John Harding, the 9-year-old son of Joseph Harding, a prominent shoe merchant, of Windber, was fatally injured on Thursday afternoon while playing on the first floor of a new building being erected on Graham avenue by the Windber Brewing company, and died at 2.10 o'clock Friday. He and several companions were playing in the new brewery building. While on the first floor, an eight foot steel beam became detached from its resting place on the fifth floor and fell down to the first, striking young Harding on the back of the head and crushing his skull in a terrible manner. His frightened companions quickly picked him up and carried him home, where he died. Altoona Times, Monday, July 27, 1903
