All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://www.usgwarchives.net/pa/somerset/ ________________________________________________ Two Miners Killed by Falls of Rock Leonard Shaffer, aged 36, residing near Hooversville, was crushed to death when he was caught under a fall of rock in a coal mine operated by his brother, Paul Shaffer, near Blough. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Shaffer, of Hooversville. He is survived by his parents, his wife and three children - Mrs. William Leach, of Hooversville, and Mary and Kenneth, both at home; also by seven brothers and six sisters. Andrew Shime, aged 37, was killed last Thursday morning at 11 o'clock when he was caught under a fall of rock in the Reitz No. 4 mine of the Reitz Coal Company at Central City. His neck was broken and he passed away a few minutes after being taken from under a large boulder. He is survived by his wife and these children: Mary, John, Anna, Helen, Joseph and Andrew, all at home. Meyersdale Republican, January 5, 1933
