Gene John Abel, 73, Somerset, died Sept. 7, 2004 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center. Born Dec. 23, 1930, in Johnstown, son of Jacob and Lillian (Frick) Abel; and brother of Glenn Abel. Survived by wife, Alma (Pudliner) Abel, daughter, Rebecca; and son, Christopher. A retired Lutheran pastor with 47 years of service. He also taught public school for 33 years. Rev. Abel graduated cum laude from Thiel College, Greenville in 1954, and earned a master of divinity degree from Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary in 1957. Friends are invited to attend a service at 11 a.m. Thursday at Grandview Mausoleum. Bishop Gregory Pile officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Dr. Wilbert Boerstler.
