  VIRGIL AMTOWER
  
  Virgil D. Amtower, 100, of Route 1, Hyndman, died Friday Dec. 24, 1993, at
  Meyersdalel Manor, Meyersdale.  He was born on March 14, 1893, in Grant
  County, WVa., a son of the late Herman Amtower and Ada V. (Reed) Amtower.
  He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Anna C. (Berg) Amtower,
  and was the last member of his immediate family.  Mr.Amtower was a retired
  maintenance employee of the Celanese.  He was a US Army veteran and  was a
  member of the Wellersburg United Church of Christ; the Celanese Local 1874
  TWA; Senior Citizens of Alleghany County and the American Association of
  Retired Persons.  
  Surviving are his wife, Alverta, A. (Knepp) Amtower, one step daughter,
  Mrs. Carley Welsh of Wellersburg; two step grandchildren and a number of
  nieces.  Friends were received at the Scarpelli Funeral Home, Cumberland,
  Md., on Monday.  Services were conducted on Tuesday with Rev. Harold W.
  Crabtree officiating.  Interment will be in Hillcrest Burial Park,
  Cumberland, Md.
