  JOSEPH E. ANAYA
  
   Joseph E. Anaya, 88, Salisbury, died Sept. 7, 2006, at City Hospital, 
  Martinsburg, W.Va. Born Nov. 28, 1917, in Pueblo, Colo., he is the son of the 
  late William and Elvira (Mestas) Anaya. He is preceded in death by two 
  brothers, William and Lloyd Anaya and one sister, Adeline Capritta. He is 
  survived by his wife, Virginia P. (Engle) Anaya; one son, Michael Anaya and 
  wife, Linda; and one daughter, Keena Crowell and husband, Rodney, all of 
  Hedgesville, W.Va.; two brothers, Donald and Robert Anaya, both of Pueblo; two 
  sisters, Lucy Kloc, Old Bridge, N.J.; Betty McCrea, Pueblo; and four 
  grandchildren, Bradley Knieriem, Jeffrey Most, Adriana Anaya and Zachary Anaya, 
  all of Hedgesville. Mr. Anaya was a self-employed building contractor. He was 
  a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, West Salisbury. A U.S. Army veteran 
  of World War II, Mr. Anaya was past commander and deputy commander of the 
  Salisbury American Legion and was a member of Voiture 40 et 8. He was a 56-year 
  member of Salisbury Volunteer Fire Department and served as chief for 25 years. 
  He was past president of the Salisbury-Elk Lick School Board, member of Somerset 
  County Home Builders, Somerset Development Authority, Salisbury Chamber of 
  Commerce, Elks, Salisbury Lions Club and Salisbury Area and Meyersdale Area 
  ambulance associations. Joe was the real Indian Chief for many years at the Pa. 
  Maple Festival's "Legend of Magic Water," owing to his Navajo Indian heritage 
  and was also the festival's parade grand marshal. Friends will be received from 
  7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Newman Funeral 
  Home Inc., 9168 Mason-Dixon Highway, Salisbury. Mass of Christian Burial will 
  be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. Michael's Catholic Church. The Rev. Albert 
  Anselmi officiating. Interment will be in Salisbury Cemetery. A Christian Wake 
  service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday at 3:45 p.m. Military 
  graveside rites will be accorded by Salisbury American Legion. Expressions of 
  sympathy may be sent to St. Michael's Catholic Church or Salisbury Volunteer
