Lt. Colonel Ankeny was a decendant of the Pioneer Ankeny and Harned families of Somerset County. He was born March 11, 1898 in the Pittsburgh area, the son of Harry and Jennie (Sowers) Ankeny. The parents and a sister Gertrude preceded him in death. Colonel Ankeny had attended the University of Pittsburgh and served in the Army Air Corps in World War I, following which, he became an employee of the Ford Motor Company. Until the beginning of World War II he was an executive of the company in Yokohama, Japan. During World War II he was on active duty as an intelligence officer in the South Pacific. He was a Mason. In addition to his wife, Mary Elizabeth at the home in Sun City, he is survived by a niece Mrs. E.F. (Paula) Harvey of Yeardon. Close relatives, in the Washington area, include retired Air Force Colonel George Francis Brown of Arlington, Va., and Clarence C. Brown of Alexandria, Va., first cousin of the deceased. Final rites with interment at Arlington National Cemetery were conducted by Air Force Chaplin Carl E. Bilderback, Major USAF. The Republic Jan. 11, 1979 [A0258]
