Appel, widow of William C. Appel and for many years a prominent resident of Meyersdale, died of pneumonia Sunday morning at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Robert Thornley, of Austintown, Ohio. She was born in Jenner Township, December 22, 1848, and lived 81 years, 3 months and 8 days. Her husband, William C. Appel, for many years an elder and active worker in Amity Reformed Church, Meyersdale, died September 20, 1900. Since his death she had her home with the Rev. A. S. Glessner and family. She moved to Ohio with the Glessner family 15 years ago. Two sisters, Mrs. A. S. Glessner and Mrs. C. W. Truxal, preceded her to the spirit world. She is survived by one son, William C. Appel of Somerset, nine grandchildren, and one brother, Michael Zimmerman, of Jenners. Mrs. Appel was a life long member of the Reformed Church. Her Christianity manifested itself in a beautiful and self-sacrificing life in an active and sympathetic interest in the advancement of the kingdom of her Heavenly Father. Her body was brought to Meyersdale for burial beside that of her husband. The funeral services were conducted in Amity Reformed Church at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, by the pastor, Rev. A. B. Black, assisted by her former pastor for many years, Rev. A. E. Truxal, D.D., 85 years of age, who pronounced a beautiful eulogy and preached a comforting sermon. Meyersdale Republican, April 3, 1930
