Harold August Appel were held at 4pm Sunday, July 1, in the Cross and Crown Lutheran Church, Florence SC, 29501. The Rev. Appel, 68, of 1003 Macree Terrace, Florence, died June 28, 1984 in a local hospital after a long illness. He was born in Braddock, a son of the late August Adam and Anna (Marx) Appel. He was a graduate of Beaver Falls High School and served in the Army Air Force in Asia during World War II. He worked for F.W. Woolworth Co. from stockboy to manager and was employed in stores in Pennsylvania and West Virginia. He owned and operated a variety store in Grafton, WVa., for seven years and was a drygoods salesman for five years. He graduated from Wittenburg University in Springfield, Ohio in 1961 and was ordained from Hamma School of Theology in 1963. He served Lutheran Church in America congregations in Ohio and retired from the Meyersdale in 1978. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Thelma (Klingelhofer) Appel of Florence; a daughter, Mrs. Franklin (Barbara) Blue of Wilkie, Canada; three sons, Richard Appel of Largo, Fla., Kenneth Appel of Bellville, Ohio, and Robert Appel in Crestline, Ohio; a sister, Mrs. Henrietta Brown of Turtle Creek; two brothers, Edward Appel of Massillon, Ohio and Herbert Apel of Alexandria, VA; and five grandchildren.
