Mr. Arnold with Mrs. Arnold and their three children were enroute to Underwood from their home, traveling in an open car. The children sat on the floor of the automobile in order to protect themselves from the cold. When the youngest child, Evelyn, fell asleep, she was covered with a blanket to make her more comfortable. At the Sunnyside Grange Hall, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold stopped for a few minutes, the children remaining in the car with the motor still running. When the family arrived at the Sims home in Underwood, whom they had set out to visit, it was found that the sleeping child had succumbed to the fumes of the gas from the exhaust.
