Dr. A. M. Uphouse, Stoystown, Somerset County coroner said that Mr. Arnone shot himself with a .32 caliber revolver about 7 o'clock, Thursday evening, in the upstairs hallway of his home. Melancholy due to ill health caused him to take his life. His wife was down stairs when she heard the shot. Upon rushing up and seeing what had happened she called for help and sent for a doctor. The wounded man was rushed to the hospital where he died a few hours later. Mr. Arnone had been in ill health since last September when he suffered two slight strokes, which left him slightly paralyzed. He was forced to give up his business, and although recently he was able to be up and around the house, he continued to suffer from high blood pressure and was at times despondent. His family, however, never had any cause to think that he was contemplating suicide. Mr. Arnone, a native of Italy, came to America in his youth and for a number of years worked at coal digging in the old Shaw Mines of the Consolidated Coal Company. Later he learned the shoe repairing trade and set up a shoe repair shop in Meyersdale in 1917. His first shop was on Main Street below the Second National Bank Building. For the past 23 years his shop has been located at 116 Center Street. He had an up-to-date line of machinery and conducted a very successful business. After his break in health in September, he sold the business to Carlo Nunnarri of Jennerstown. Besides his wife, Carmela (Russo) Arnone, he is survived by a fine family of children, three sons and two daughters. Phillip, a talented musician, served 18 months overseas, in the E. T. O., with an Army Regiment band. At present he is employed at the George Washington Hotel, Washington, Pa. The second son, Joseph spent 12 months overseas with the U.S. Army in China and was stationed in Shanghai. At present he is at home. The third son Anthony is a school boy. Daughter Catherine is a first year student at Indiana State Teachers College, and Beatrice is a junior in Meyersdale High School. Funeral services for Mr. Arnone were held at 9 a.m., Monday morning in SS. Philip and James Church, Rev. Father Houghton officiating. Attending the funeral obsequies were the deceased's two sisters, Concetta and Ageline, both married, of Akron, O., and his brother Anthony of New York. He has five sisters living in Italy. Pall bearers were Joseph Spataro, James Toscanno, Nat LaCavera, Sam Angelo, Tom Bruno and Dominic DeFibo. Meyersdale Republican, March 13, 1947
