He was born Jan. 1, 1924, in Selbysport, Md., a son of the late Daniel Roy and Elizabeth Irene (Harris) Artice. Eight brothers and sisters preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife, Sarah Jane (Wable) Artice; and these children, Bert E. and his friend, Jan Samler, Daniel R. and his wife, Chrystal, both of Meyersdale; and Camala, wife of Jeff Lowery, Fort Hill; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was brother of Irene Gauntz, Meyersdale; and Eleanore Parnelle, Uniontown. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He was a retired plastic cutter for Penn Tables, Meyersdale. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was awarded The Purple Heart. Member of Salisbury Church of the Brethren, VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed reading, gardening, tinkering and spending time with his family. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Monday at Salisbury Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Daniel Whitacre officiating. The family suggests contributions be made to the Somerset Hospice.
