He was born Dec. 5, 1910, in Friendsville, Md., a son of the late James E. and Minnie Belle (Rickner) Artice. He is survived by his wife, Virgie B. (Goodwin) Artice; and the following step-children; Mrs. Clara Chidester and Mrs. Woodrow (Leona) Sterner, both of Addison; Mrs. Daniel (Flossie) Tressler of Confluence; Mrs. Avey (Anna) Haney, Mrs. James (Ida) Smith and Lawren Mates Sr., all of Canton, Ohio; and Tillman Mates of Akron, Ohio; 26 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; also two brothers: Clark Artice of Accident, Md., and Glenn Artice of Friendsville, Md.; three sisters: Mrs. Blanche Coddington of Uniontown; Mrs. Julia Fike and Mrs. Grace Hook, both of Friendsville, Md. Also a half-sister, Mrs. Wilma Sanner, also of Friendsville, Md. Friends were received at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence, where services were held with the Rev.
