Ash Sr., 64, of Oakland RD 5, Md. died Dec. 12, 1980 in Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown, Md. He was born Nov. 22, 1916, at Accident, Md.; and was a son of the late Joseph and Ellen J. (Bender) Ash. He was employed by the Sterling Processing Corperation for over 24 years when he retired in 1977. He is survived by his widow, Mary V. (Brobst) Ash; five daughters, Mrs. Carrie Sines of Ridgeley; Mrs. Elsie Lewis and Mrs. Roberta Baker, both of Oakland; Mrs. Leota Ayers of Baltimore, Md., and Staff Sgt. Jo Ellen Patterson of Pope Air Force Base in North Carolina; three sons, Robert A. Ash Jr., Oakland; Staff Sgt. Joseph Ash, Camp David, Boonsboro, and James Ash of Waynesboro; three sisters, Mrs. Lydia Sweitzer of Swanton, Md.; Mrs. Minnie Hay of Berlin, and Mrs. Hulda Thornberg of South Carolina; 12 grandchildren, eight step grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The Stewart Funeral Home in Oakland, Md., is in charge of arrangements. Services were held at Pine Grove Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Donald Matthews officiating, assisted by the Rev. Jonas Sines. Interment will be in the Glades Mennonite Cemetery in Accident. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to The Western Maryland Heath Association, PO Box 1114, Cumberland. The Republic December 18, 1980
