  HOWARD THOMAS "TOM" AUGUSTINE
  
  Howard Thomas "Tom" Augustine, 66, Addison, died March 29, 2004, at home 
  following a long battle with cancer.  Born, Nov. 14, 1937, in Confluence, a son 
  of the late Earl and Mary Louise (Burroughs) Augustine. In addition to his 
  parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Ruth Sausman and a 
  brother, Donald.  He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Eileen (Laub) 
  Augustine; daughters, Brenda and husband Ervin "Herby" Umbel, Friendsville, Md., 
  and Linda and husband, John Merschat, Markleysburg; grandchildren: Jordan, 
  Courtney, Levi, Lindsey and Hanna Merschat and Katy and Kerah Umbel.  He is also 
  survived by a brother, Ed "Bud" and wife Eleanor Augustine, Addison; sister, 
  Doris and husband, Bob VanSickel, Ursina; sister-in-law Frances Augustine of 
  Alexandria, Va.; and mother-in-law, Rose Laub; Markleysburg.  He was a member of 
  the Addison United Methodist Church, the Confluence Lions Club and was 
  affiliated with the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church of Accident, Md.  He co-
  founded, with son-in-law, John Merschat, Appalachian Timber Products and Summit 
  Forest Resources of Markleysburg.  He was a graduate of Turkeyfoot Valley Area 
  High School class of 1956 and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.  Friends will be 
  received from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday at the Humbert Funeral Home, 
  Confluence, and Friday at the Cherry Glade Mennonite Church from 10 to 11 a.m., 
  the hour of service.  The Rev. Oren Bender and the Rev. Timothy Rogers will 
  officiate.  A dinner for family and friends will follow the service in the church 
  fellowship hall.  Following cremation, a memorial service will be held in Addison 
  at a later date.  The family suggests memorial contributions to the Addison UMC 
  Memorial Fund, PO Box 34, Addison, Pa. 15411, or to the Cherry Glade Mennonite 
  Church Building Fund, 4051 Accident-Bittinger Road, Accident, Md. 21520.
