He was a devoted husband to three wonderful women, who incidentally knew one another during their lifetime. Barbara was the mother of Fran and Tarrant. Catharine was a longtime family friend and Gladys, whom Marshall had a crush on when they were in grade school. All three of them had a very special place in Marshall's life. He indeed was a wonderful father to Fran and Tarrant. He gave them constant love and support throughout their growing up years and was proud of what they became during their adult life. His work with the Soil Conservation Service was his call. He instructed the farmers of three different states how to utilize their land to its greatest benefit. He created plants that helped to prevent soil erosion along the sand dunes of the Ocean City, Md., area. He was given many awards for his achievements in the field of conservation. But, Marshall is best known for his love for his fellow man. When he returned to Addison after his retirement, he became an inspiration to all the residents. He worked to beautify his parents' property which had stood unattended for many years, which in turn inspired others to do the same. He opened his home, as his parents, Sarah and Thomas Jefferson Augustine, had done before him, for many events that took place during the calendar year. He would greet each guest with joy and enthusiasm. Later in life, he helped create the Old Petersburg-Addison Historical Society and was a member of the Confluence Lions Club. Throughout his life, Marshall was blessed to be a member of St. John's Lutheran Church of Addison. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Humbert Funeral Home, Confluence. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in St. John's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Glenn Foster officiating. Interment in Addison Cemetery. Family suggests memorial contributions to St. John's Lutheran Church or Old Petersburg-Addison Historical Society.
