He was born in Meyersdale August 14, 1913, a son of Charles and Ellen Michael Austin. His mother preceded him in death in 1929. He graduated from the Meyersdale High School in the class of 1931. He was a member of the Meyersdale Fire Department, the Laurel Falls Association, and the Central City American Legion Home Aid Association. He has been employed by the State liquor stores in various parts of the county for a number of years. Surviving are his father and the following brothers and sisters: Esther, Mary (Mrs. W. H. Barmoy), Robert, James, Ernest and Helen, of Meyersdale; Nell (Mrs. G. Tressler) and Oscar, of Akron, Ohio; Hazel, Elsie and William, of New York City. Funeral services were conducted at three o'clock on Sunday afternoon at the Austin home on Salisbury Street, by Rev. Nelson C. Brown, pastor of Evangelical and Reformed Church, of which the deceased was a member. H. R. Konhaus, local mortician, was in charge of funeral arrangements and burial. Pallbearers were Merle Tressler, Tony Tattarelli, Andy Horchner, Paul Dahl and Galen Schrock, all close friends of the deceased. Meyersdale Republican, March 25, 1943
