(Somerset, Pa.): June 16, 1880 On Thursday, June 10, at his residence in Somerset township, Joseph Baker, in the 88th year of his age. Mr. Baker lived in this county during most of his life. He was a soldier of the war of 1812, and participated in the battle of Lundy's Lane and some of the other bloody conflicts on the Canada border. About forty years ago he removed from the Stoystown country to Somerset township. In the “good old days" of big musters and fisticuffs the subject of this notice was discovered by requirers to be very hard to handle. For many years he has led a moral, industrious life. He raised a large family. He always claimed to be considerably older than eighty-seven, but other old citizens state that to be about the figure. A large number of persons attended the funeral on Sunday morning.
