(Somerset, Pa.): January 20, 1892 John R. Brinham, who has been merchant and postmaster at Wellersburg, this county for the past fifty years, died on Monday last, aged about eighty years. He was an Englishman, having emigrated to this country when a boy and soon after his arrival in America located at Wellersburg. He was prominent in developing the mineral resources of that region and was the owner of several large tracts of mineral land. He was greatly embarrassed by the financial panic of 1872 to 1878, but succeeded in preventing the property from being sacrificed, by skillful management: and if the day ever comes when the property can be sold at anything like it's real value, it will leave his heirs in comfortable circumstances… He was a faithful member of the church of England and an intense Republican.
