Born Sept. 26, 1920, in Summit Township, a son of the late Albert J. and Margarette (Lee) Baer. Also preceded in death by his wife, Mary (Martin) Baer; brother, Glenn A. Baer, and three sisters: Ruth L. Bice, Leona Johnson, and Pauline E. Polefrone. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Meyersdale. A proud graduate of Pennsylvania State University in 1941, and attended the University of Maryland, California University of Pa. and Indiana University of Pa. Former school teacher at Findlay Township High School, South Fayette Township High School, Lincoln High School, Salisbury-Elk Lick High School (1946-47) and retired from Meyersdale Elementary School in 1984 with 16 years of service. Dale was very active in community service. He served on the board of the Somerset County Planning Commission, Meyersdale Community Hospital Board, past president and board member of the Pa. Maple Festival, past Exalted Ruler of B.P.O.E. Lodge 1951, and past president of the Meyersdale Area Education Association. Also a member of L.O.O.M. Lodge 76, Penn State Alumni Association, American Legion Post 445, VFW Post 8826, and LaSociete 40 et 8, Voiture 609. On May 1, 1968, Dale retired from the United States Air Force with the rank of Major and 25 years of service. He was a veteran of World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and was a rated Master Navigator. Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Price Funeral Home, Meyersdale, where a service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. David Fetter officiating.
