Vernon Hospital, Mt. Vernon, New York. He had been sick only a few days and late Thursday night he was removed from his residence to the hospital for a blood transfusion and passed away shortly after he was admitted to the institution. Dr. Baer was the youngest son of the late Attorney and Mrs. Herman L. Baer of Somerset. He was educated in the Somerset public schools and Bordertown Military Institute, Bordertown, New Jersey. Later he attended Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and the College of Physicians and Surgeons, New York City. After practicing his profession for a few years in New York City, where he became an assistant police surgeon, he located at Mt. Vernon, a suburb of New York City, where he acquired a large practice. Dr. Baer made frequent visits to his old home town and was immensely popular there. He is survived by his wife who was Mabel McKinley, only daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Abner McKinley and niece of President William McKinley. The wedding of Dr. Baer and Miss McKinley in September, 1900, at "McKinley Place," the present home of Dr. and Mrs. R. B. Colvin, was attended by her uncle, President McKinley, and many other persons prominent in official life. Funeral services were held at his late home in Mt. Vernon, Sunday afternoon, under auspices of the Mt. Vernon Masonic Lodge, after which the body was forwarded to Somerset, where additional services were held in St. Paul's Reformed Church, on Monday at 11 a.m. in charge of Rev. Dr. George L. Roth. Burial was made in the Somerset Union Cemetery. Dr. Baer has two surviving brothers, George and Reuben Baer, both residing in California. A sister, Mrs. George R. Scull, preceded him in death.
