Baer, 78, of Akron, Ohio, formerly of Meyersdale, died Sept. 30, 1974. Born in Meyersdale, he was a son of the late George W. and Barbara (Meese) Baer. He had lived in the Akron area for about 50 years. Following service with the medical corps in France during World War I, he secured employment with the Firestone Company in Akron, where he became a supervisor in milling and processing. He was of a musical family and, along with his 11 brothers and sisters, the Baer family band was formed, which frequently played for picnics and, other social gatherings. He was also a member of a family quartet. In Akron he was a member of the Park United Methodist Church, where he was associated with the church choir for 43 years. Surviving are his wife, Ethel; daughters, Mrs. Marybell Lawson and Barbara Baker, both of Akron; one grandson; five sisters, Mrs. Mary Hostetler, Mrs. Ivy Paul, Mrs. Lily Yutzy, Mrs. Tillie Steinly and Mrs. Imogene Arnold; and two brothers, Ralph and Marshall Baer, all of Pennsylvania. Funeral service was held Oct. 2 from the Dunn-Quigley and Ciriello Chapel in Akron. Meyersdale Republican, October 10, 1974 [B0079]
