Bailey, 85, of Addison, died Feb. 7, 2000, at Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. He was born Dec. 15, 1914, in Fairchance, a son of James R. and Daisy E. (Guthrie) Bailey. Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Meryl I. (Brice) Bailey, brother, William Bailey, nephew, William R. Bailey, Jr.. sister-in-law, Marjorie Bailey, and niece, Denise Smiley. He is survived by his wife, Gay J. (McClintock) Bailey; brothers, James R. and wife, Alice, Phoenix, Ariz., Warren S. and wife, Adeline, and Robert D. and wife, Charlotte, all of Fairchance; sisters: Betty Smiley and husband, Glenn, of Fairchance; and Doris Betts and husband, Greg, Minden, Nev. Also numerous and precious nieces and nephews. He was a loving and devoted husband for 24 years. A graduate of Washington & Jefferson College and Fairchance High School. He taught at Fairchance and served as supervising principal from 1942 to 1955. While there, he also coached baseball and football and directed school plays. From 1955 until his retirement in 1974, he was they superintendent of Turkeyfoot Valley Area School District. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European Theater. He was a member of Uniontown American Legion Post 51, a charter Member of Fairchance Lions Club and presently a member of Confluence Lions Club, where he also served a term as president. Member of Laurel Lodge 651 F. & A .M. of Uniontown, and the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite and Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh. Also a member of the Addison United Methodist Church. where he served as church treasurer, taught Sunday school and was a member of the Pastor-Parish Relations Committee for many years. He was also a lay speaker at various churches in the Turkeyfoot area. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday, at the Humbert Funeral Home in Confluence, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, with the Rev. Timothy Rogers officiating. Interment will follow in Addison cemetery. Family suggests contributions to Addison United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 34, Addison, Pa. 15411.
