Baird, 74, of Ruffdale RD, Pa., died March 11, 1973, in Mt. Pleasant after a short illness. He was born Oct. 21, 1898, in Westmoreland County. He had been at one time a self-employed well driller around the Somerset area. Member of Scottdale Church of Christ, World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his widow, Myrtle (Ware) Baird, one son, Delmar R. Baird of Toledo, Ohio; one daughter, Mrs. Garnet Ostrander of Toledo; one stepdaughter, Mrs. James (Freda) Shaffer of Lewisburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Also, surviving are one half-brother, Paul Mettevies of Smithton, Pa.; two half-sisters, Mrs. Charles (Marie) Snyder of Scottdale; and Mrs. William (Minnie) Kreuter of Smithton, Pa. Friends will be received at the James Murphy Memorial Home, Scottdale, Pa., on Tuesday (today) from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., time of service. Officiating are Robert W. Chambers, minister, and the Rev. Ledyard Baxter, both of Scottdale. Burial will follow in Bakersville, Somerset County. Daily American, 13 March 1973 [B0129]
