Baker, died at 2:20 p.m., Tuesday, October 2, at her home in Crellin, Md., aged 90 years, 7 months and 24 days. Mrs. Baker suffered a stroke last May 6 and had been in a critical condition since then. She was the third of nine children of John C. and Elizabeth Kendall, and was born in Greenville Township, February 8, 1855, in the same house now occupied by her brother-in-law, Joseph E. Baker. In 1890 she was married, and went to housekeeping on Large Street in Meyersdale. It was there that her two sons and daughter were born, Walter Raymond, who died in infancy, Robert Austin, aircraft inspector with the Army Air Forces, Patterson Field, Dayton, O., Edna Marie, Mrs. Homer Wright, Crellin, Md. In 1900 Mr. and Mrs. Baker moved to Sippleville, and in 1916 sold their commodious home there to go to Crellin where Mr. Baker was employed by the Kendall Lumber Co., until his death, July 21, 1921. Mrs. Baker is survived by two sisters, Mrs. John H. Rembold and Miss Mattie M. Kendall, Meyersdale. All of her five brothers and one of her sisters preceded her in death. They were David P., U. S. Grant, Jacob L., John C., Samuel A. and Rachel, wife of Joseph E. Baker. The brothers, with the exception of David who died before he reached maturity, were men of prominence - John C. was principal of the Homestead, Pa., schools for many years; Jacob L. and Samuel A. were lumber manufacturers. In addition, Samuel was founder of this paper, and from 1918 until 1933 he served as congressman from this district. Grant, for some years was a lawyer and served for a time as judge of courts at Fairmont, W.Va. Funeral services were conducted last Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Bolden Funeral Home, Oakland, Md., with Rev. George D. Birk, of St. Mark's Evangelical Church, of which Mrs. Baker was a member, officiating. Interment was in the Hostetler Cemetery, near Meyersdale, with commital services in charge of Rev. J. Earl Gindlesperger of Meyersdale. Nephews served as pallbearers. Meyersdale Republican, October 11, 1945
