Born Jan. 4, 1924, in Hay's Mill, son of Lewis and Bertha (Bowman) Baker. Preceded in death by his parents; sister, Dorothy Shroyer; and brothers, Walter and Robert. Survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Gertrude Breig; children, Kenneth D. Baker, married to the former Deborah Walker, Berlin; and Donna Williams, married to Timothy, Meyersdale; grandchildren, Patrick (Janet), Eric (Colbie), and Burton D. Baker, Kristina (Bill) Burkholder, Jolene Shaffer and fiancˇ, Dan Smith, and Rebecca and Matthew Williams; step grand- children, Jill Coyle and Jeffrey (Roni) Langley; great grandchildren, Cooper and Jeremy Baker, Lee Samples, Heidi, Josie and Elizabeth Shaffer, Paige and Dan Smith, Ashton Coyle and Gunner Greer; also survived by special friends, Debbie Werner and Steve Spear. A 1942 graduate of Meyersdale High School. World War II veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the European Theater as a medic and a chaplain's assistant. He was a mason and carpenter. Member of Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 445, Berlin. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin, where service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Bryan G. Karchner and the Rev. Ralph G. Landis officiating. Interment Hay's Church Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to Camp PARC c/o Ted Risch, 178 Cable Lane, Davidsville, PA 15928. Graveside military honors provided by the Somerset County Honor Guard.
