Baker, 61, House 701, Mine 37, Windber, died Sept. 1, 1989, at Mercy Hospital. Born Dec. 24, 1927, in Hyasota, son of Albert and Nellie (Broadstalk) Baker. Preceded in death by parents; sister, Nettie Thomas; and brother, Clarence. Left to cherish memories are wife, former Verna Burger; sons, Herbert, married to Barbara Cameron, Hooversville RD 1; and Robert, married to former Sally Sprankle, at home; also six grandchildren. Sisters and brother: Louise Donahue, Baltimore, Md.; Robert, Dayton, Ohio; Dorothy Christian, Sun City, Ariz.; Esther Neff, Portage; Virginia Causer, Lilly; and many nieces and nephews. Foster parent of 14 children through Children and Youth Services. Member of Elton United Methodist Church and Tire Hill Local No. 998, U.M.W.A. Retired employee of Island Creek Coal Company, Tire Hill, with 29 years service. Army veteran of World War II, having served in Germany. Friends received 7-9 p.m. Saturday, and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Hoffman Funeral Home, Allegheny Street, Boswell. Service at 11 a.m. Monday at Elton Methodist Church where viewing will also be held from 10 a.m. until time of service with the Rev. Paul Morris officiating. Interment, Dunmyer Cemetery near Elton.
