He was ill for only a few days, having suffered a stroke of paralysis last Friday. His health has been failing within the past year, but he was still able to be up and about his home. He was born on a farm near Maple Grove, a few miles south of here, July 13, 1855, a son of Solomon and Elizabeth (Custer) Baker, both natives of Garrett County. January 27, 1878, he married Mary Yost, who died in December 1932. He engaged in farming near here for many years until his retirement, when he moved into Grantsville, where he has since made his home. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. George Wagner, of Latrobe, Pa.; Mrs. George Winter, of Baltimore, Md.; Eugene Baker, of Belle Vernon, Pa.; William, Norman and Lloyd Baker of Grantsville; also by one sister, Mrs. Anna Maust, of Scottdale, Pa.; eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Maple Grove Church of the Brethren during his entire life. Funeral services probably will be conducted some time on Saturday. Meyersdale Republican, June 13, 1940
