Baker, aged 61, who served for many years as a justice of the peace, died Monday morning at his home on Main Street, Berlin, after an illness of several months. Although Mr. Baker's health had failed some time ago, he was able to be about his duties until a few days ago when he became bedfast. Mr. Baker was born in Berlin, a son of Levi and Margaret (Queer) Baker, both deceased. He obtained his early education in the Berlin schools and later graduated from Gettysburg College. Mr. Baker was known to many friends as "Parley" Baker. In addition to serving as justice of the peace he was engaged in the insurance business for many years. The deceased also was known as a public speaker of note and had appeared before organizations in this section on many occasions. He was a member of the Knights of Pythias, I.O.O.F., Knights of Malta, and the Modern Woodmen of America, and was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Grace (Kimmel) Baker, and a sister, Mrs. Levi Hoyle, Scranton. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon at the J. N. Johnson & Son Funeral Home by Rev. C. P. Bastian, D.D. Interment in the Berlin I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Meyersdale Republican, December 5, 1940
