While casting its shadow of death, it claimed one of our best known citizens, Solomon Baker. Mr. Baker was taken seriously ill on Tuesday of last week and never again gained consciousness after that. He died Saturday evening at about 11:30 o'clock. His death was caused by paralysis. Mr. Baker was aged 63 years, 10 months and 4 days. He worked for Richard Newman at lumbering for many years, and when at last his health compelled him to quit the sawmill, Mr. Newman was deeply moved, because those two men had been working companions and friends for a long while. This companionship seems more than earthly, and it does bring the thought to us that even in death they are not to be parted, because so soon Mr. Baker followed his friend to the Great Beyond. Mr. Baker is survived by the following children: John, Elmer, Harvey, Clarence, Jess, Frank, George, Edna, Mae, Mrs. William Keefer and Mrs. Jacob Baer, and these brothers and sisters: Daniel, George, Harvey, and Mrs. Susan Arnold of Finzel, Md., and Miss Lydia Baker of Pittsburgh. Mr. Baker's wife and two of their children preceded him to the grave. Funeral services were held on Tuesday at 2 o'clock at the Greenville Lutheran Church, interment in the church cemetery. Rev. S. D. Sigler conducted the funeral services, and Undertaker W. C. Price had charge of the burial arrangements. Meyersdale Republican, March 24, 1932
