Baldwin, 78, a prominent businessman and member of the firm of Baldwin & Dively, died at his late home in Berlin Sunday morning. He had been in ill health for several months. Before being associated with the present firm he was a buyer for a number of Somerset County stores and later was associated with a wholesale hardware business. Mr. Baldwin was ever interested in the civic and educational development of the community in which he lived. He served as a member of the school board and also as a member of the borough council. He was a fine neighbor and a friend to those in need. Having been born with unusual musical talent he was a member of the Baldwin Band composed of his father, brothers and sisters, who played for various gatherings in the county, during his boyhood. He was also a charter member of the Berlin Band, a musical organization well known in Western Pennsylvania. He sang in the choir of the Lutheran Church for thirty years, of which church he was a faithful member. Mr. Baldwin, better known as "Dabby", was a member of the Berlin Lions Club, Berlin Volunteer Fire Department, Modern Woodmen of America and I.O.O.F. and Berlin chamber of Commerce. He was born in Meyersdale, a son of Joseph and Lucinda (Dickey) Baldwin. His first wife and mother of his six children, Cora Walker Baldwin, died a number of years ago. He is survived by his second wife, Ada Dively Baldwin, who was a good step-mother to his children. The surviving children are: Mrs. Clinton Christner, Shanksville; Mrs. W. Harold Albright, Somerset; Mrs. Homer C. Cober, Johnstown; Mrs. Henry D. Davis, Berlin; and Merle W. Baldwin, a druggist of Pittsburgh. An older son, Roy W. Baldwin of Indiana, Pa., died May 6, 1945. Surviving also are 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, and a brother, Wm. H. Baldwin of Meyersdale. Funeral services were held in the Johnson & Son funeral home, Wednesday, Sept. 11th, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Robert S. Nagle, officiating. Interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.
