Born Nov. 20, 1925 in Massillon, Ohio. Son of Charles and Cleo (Kaley) Bantz. Preceded in death by parents, and a brother. Survived by wife of 51 years the former Betty Jane Durnell, Meadow View Nursing Center, Berlin, and daughter Joy married to Rostyslave Melnyk; Indianapolis, Mnd., also survived by two grandchildren: Hillary Dawson; Port Clinton, Ohio and Adriana Melnyk; Indianapolis, Ind. A Navy veteran of World War II where he served with P.H.M. III Evacuation Iwojma, Okinawa and received a Purple Heart for wounds on Beach Party Iwojma on third wave. He was a college graduate of Otterbein College. He received his Masters Degree from Akron University. He served on the Massillon Board of Education. He was an elementary education principal for 24 years, he was the last principal at Brookfield Elementary School and the first Principal at Gonell Elementary School. No viewing or receiving friends. Friends are welcome to attend a memorial service followed by Military Service at 4 p.m. Thursday in the Deaner Funeral Home, Berlin. Daily American, September 11, 2000 {B0348]
