Baraniak, 92, Boswell, passed away Oct. 24, 2006, at Somerset Hospital. Born March 17, 1914, in Boswell, son of Walter and Mary Ann (Haidos) Baraniak. Preceded in death by parents; and wife, the former Margaret Pero on Jan. 18, 1978. Last surviving member of six siblings, an infant sister; sister, Sophie Cebula; and brothers, Alex, Michael and Charles Baraniak. Survived by beloved daughter and caregiver, Bernadette Baraniak, at home; sons, Dr. John M. Baraniak, married to former Melane Wislocki, Hidden Valley; and Thomas G. Baraniak, married to former Gretchen V. Berkey, Somerset; loving grand-daughters, Ann Skradski, and husband, Tom, and Alison Baraniak, both of Charleston, S.C.; and special joy in his life, great-granddaughter, Ada Marie Skradski; also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws and other relatives. A 1933 graduate of former Boswell High School. Employee of the former Sheftic's Grocery Store and Sheftic's Movie Theaters, both of Boswell, for many years. In 1977, John retired from Bethlehem Steel Corp., Gautier Division. A lifelong member of All Saints Catholic Parish, also a member of Our Lady of the Laurel Highlands Council 8908, K. of C. Was an avid sports enthusiast, who in his youth was an accomplished baseball player. He later coached little league for many years. He also enjoyed reading and bowling and numerous out-door activities. John could often be seen walking around Boswell with his faithful companion, Kirby. He was an unassuming humble man with a gentle nature and quiet spirit and was a great example to his children and grandchildren. Viewing from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Hoffman Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 409 Main St., Boswell, where vigil for the deceased will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday.
