Born Nov. 13, 1895, in Fiume diNisi, province of Messina, Sicily, Italy. Son of the late Natle and Domenica (Urso) Barbera. Also preceded in death by one brother and two sisters. Survived by wife, the former Venera Fidi, and these children: Mrs. Russell (Virgina) Crimone, Somerset RD 2; Nathaniel A., married to the former Anne M. Repetti, Somerset RD 4; Mrs. Joseph J. (Josephine) Polakoski, Somerset; John J., married to the former Carol L. Friedline, Somerset RD 4; also a foster son, Carl Nunnari, Hawaii; 27 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren. Member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Somerset. Employed as a shoemaker in Washington for one year; owned and operated Joe Barbera's Shoe Repair in Rockwood for 15 years, and in Somerset for 39 years. Army Veteran and a Prisoner of War during World War I in the Italian Army. Death ends a marriage union of 69 1/2 years. Friends received from 7-9 p.m. today and 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Thursday in Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, Msgr. Samuel J. Tomaselli officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park.
