Born Aug. 11, 1915, in Somerset Township, a son of Nelson Albert and Anne Mae (Gardner) Barclay. Preceded in death by parents; sisters, Carrie Miller and Marion Knupp; and brother, George W. Barclay. Survived by wife, the former Velma Faye Ankney, whom he was married to for 70 years; daughters, Dr. Kay Carol Field and husband, Dr. T.A. Field, Fort Smith, Ark.; Suzette Faye Barclay and husband, Peter E. Mitchell Esq., Fredericksburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Earl attended the Grace United Methodist Church in Somerset, where he served as a trustee, life member of the church administration board, and a former Sunday school teacher as well as vice chairman of the building committee. He was a member and past president of the Somerset Lions Club and past vice president of the Rockville Lions Club. Organizer of the ÒOver the Hill Gang,Ó and a trained volunteer for the Ostomy Association. Earl worked over 40 years as contractor for various companies including Polinger Land Development in Bethesda, Md., and lastly with Hemminger Homes where he retired in 1989. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, Somerset. A service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace United Methodist Church, Somerset. The Rev.
