Born July 1, 1931, in Johnstown, son of Paul E. Barefoot and Grace (Beal) Barefoot Spangler. Preceded in death by parents and step-father, Milton "Petey" Spangler. Survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Jimmie Foy; children, Joseph Paul Jr., Johnstown, and Jayne Ardel Meyer, Berlin; and grandchildren, Jason Wayne, Jacob Maxamillian and Joanne Michelle Barefoot, Angela Grace Meyer and Mark Anthony Brauer. A 1949 graduate of Quemahoning-Stoystown High School and a graduate of Penn State University. An Air Force Veteran of the Korean Conflict and retired federal employee from Washington, D.C. He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Stoystown where he sang in the choir. He also sang with the Roof Garden Chorus and Barber Shop Quartet. Member of the Robert P. Hite Post 257 American Legion, Stoystown, Berlin VFW Post 7565, New Baltimore Sportsmen's Club, and past president of Mid-Atlantic Golf Course Association. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m., Thursday at Deaner Funeral Home, Stoystown. Viewing from noon until service at 1 p.m., Friday at St. Paul's U.C.C., Stoystown. The Rev. John Emig officiating. Interment Odd Fellows Cemetery, Stoystown. Graveside military rites by Somerset County Honor Guard. Memorial contributions may be given to St. Paul's U.C.C., Stoystown, PA 15563. Legion service will be held at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.
