Born April 26, 1924 in Stonycreek Township, Somerset County, Pa. Son of George Russell Barkman and Estella Elizabeth (Tospon) Barkman. Preceded in death by parents; daughter Peggy Jean Sinnen who died Oct. 13, 1997; Sisters, Leora Lehman, Victoria Walker, Marie Lowry and Ruth Fisher and brother George T. Barkman. Survived by wife the former Harriet Ann Holt to whom he was married 53 years. Children: Mrs. Donald R. (Kay Lynne) Glessner of Berlin; Ms. Nancy Marie Gibson of Huston, Texas; 5 grandchildren, Barbara Glessner of Shanksville; Mrs. Charles (Beth) Roberts of Harrisburg; Scott Glessner, married to the former Michelle Bly of Berlin; Mrs. Rez (Michelle) Munawar of Huston, Texas; Francis E. Stone of Huston, Texas; 4 great grandchildren; Kaylin, Dylan and Logan Glessner, Suriya Munawar. Brother of Mrs. Elsie M. Schuster of Friedens; Harold R. Barkman of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Robert O. Barkman of Baltimore, Md. Member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, Shanksville; 1942 graduate of Shanksville Stonycreek High School; U.S. Navy veteran of WWII; Charter Member of American Legion Post 911, Shanksville; past president Shanksville Stonycreek school board; member Shanksville Rod and Gun Club; Shanksville Sportsman Club; charter member Shanksville Vol. Fire Co.; Owner of Electric Heat Co. of Friedens retiring in 1986. Friends received from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauger-Zeigler Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Walter L. Startzel officiating.
