Barkman, 83, 470 Park Ave., Tyrone, died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday, May 5, 1990, at Mercy Hospital, Altoona, following extended illness. Born Oct. 24, 1906, in Somerset County, son of Charles F. and Bertha (Henninger) Barkman. On Dec. 22, 1926, in Somerset County was married to Mary S. Putnam, who preceded him in death May 10, 1985. Survived by one son, Ronald L. Barkman of Hamburg, Pa., and one daughter, Mrs. John (Marjorie) Woomer, Pennsylvania Furnace; eight grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; brother, Floyd B. Barkman, New Centerville. Preceded in death by son, Dr. Oscar C. Barkman, on Aug. 13, 1982, and by one brother and one sister. Member of Church of the Brethren of Tyrone, Men's Sunday School Class and Men's Fellowship. Had served as deacon, trustee and member of building committee. Worked as shipping clerk for former Shaffer Meat Packing Company and retired in 1971 as a salesman for Juniata Packing Co., both of Tyrone. Funeral service for Mr. Barkman will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 8, at Church of the Brethren, with Rev. Ralph Z. Ebersole officiating. Interment will follow in Blair Memorial Park. Friends may call at Richard H. Searer Funeral Home, Tyrone, on Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 to 10 a.m. Contributions in his memory may be made to Building Fund, Church of the Brethren, 18th St. and Adams Ave., Tyrone, Pa, 16686 Daily American, May 7, 1990 [B0428]
