Born Dec. 8, 1922, in Jenner Township, son of Kenneth and Verda (Shaulis) Barnett. Preceded in death by parents; wife, the former Dorothy Louise Ogline, who died March 5, 2000; sisters, Frances Emert and Elaine Baughman. Survived by a daughter, Mrs. Barry (Marie) Craig, Somerset; grandchildren, Joseph D. Ruskey and Mrs. Lisa Ruskey Busch, both of Boswell; great-granddaughters, Jackie Ruskey, Ashley Rose and Olivia Busch. A retired police officer for the Baltimore, Md., Police Department Canine Unit. Also retired as a security guard for the former Coleman Company, Somerset. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II with the 45th Thunderbird Division, 180 Regiment served in the 5th and 7th army in North Africa, Sicily, Angio, Italy, France, Munich, Germany, and Dachan Death Camp. Awarded six battle stars, Bronze Star, Bronze Arrowhead and other combat medals. He was also a life member of the Jenner Rod and Gun Club, Boswell American Legion Post 461 and Somerset VFW Post 554. No viewing or visitation. A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at Somerset Memorial Park with the Somerset County Honor Guard officiating.
