(Hay) Barron, 74, of Somerset RD 7, died June 11, 1995 in the Somerset Hospital in the Hospice Unit. Born March 4, 1921, in Jefferson township, daughter of the late William H. and Myrtle O. (Barron) Hay. Also preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Ringer, and a brother, George. Survived by her husband, Edward L. and these children: James W., married to the former Linda Sturtz of Somerset; Edward M. of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; David, P. married to the former Barbara James of Danville, Pa.; Myrtle O., married to David Sturtz of Middletown, Md.; and Wilmer H., married to the former Sally Speelman of Somerset. Nine grandchildren: Christopher, Jamie, Andrew, Heather, Rebecca, Matthew, and Samantha Barron and Stephen and Shannon Sturtz. One great grandson, Steven Michael Barron. Sister of Rena Pritts and Ralph Hay of Somerset and William Hay of Galveston, Ind. Death ended a marriage union of 55 years. Graduated in 1940 from Somerset High School. Member of the Somerset Church of the Brethren where she taught the Toddler Sunday School Class for 35 years. Served on the Church Board, was a member of the Women's Fellowship, auxiliary member of the Church of the Brethren Home, and served as a delegate to the District conference. Was a 4-H leader for 25 years. Member of the Somerset Garden Club. Avid flower and vegetable gardener. Participated in the Somerset County Fair, and the Pennsylvania Farm Show where she won hundreds of awards. Was a volunteer for the American Heart, Easter Seals and Cancer Associations. Enjoyed traveling and playing bingo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in her memory to the Somerset Church of the Brethren, the Somerset Garden Club, or the Somerset County 4-H Development Fund. Family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday and 2-4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Robert H. Halverson Funeral Home. Services will be at the Somerset Church of the Brethren Wednesday at 11 a.m. Rev. Roger L. Forry, officiating. Interment, Somerset County Memorial Park. Daily American, June 12, 1995 [B0573]
